TENNIS STRATEGIES
It used to be that playing tennis meant standing at the base line and hitting the ball back over the net. Today,... the game is extremely competitive and very physical.
Just like in golf, the athlete must have functional strength that can be used to improve, not hinder, the game. For you serious players, you already understand the power and stamina that one must have to play at any level.
All you have to do is watch one set of tennis played on TV to appreciate the level of athleticism the players exhibit. Tennis players, especially at a world class level are some of the best conditioned athletes in the world.
Playing tennis at any level of competition requires the athlete to be "totally conditioned",... strength, power, flexibility and aerobically. All aspects of fitness and conditioning are needed.
Even "week-enders" need to be conditioned if they are seriously looking to improve their level of play. Consider some of the physical activities required in just one point. Balance, quickness, start/stop, coordination, power/strength and endurance. If we ever look for a "TOTAL" athlete, we may simply look to tennis players to satisfy our search.
